  • What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy  includes a series of exercises to achieve neuromuscular re-education of the head and neck muscles. OMT assists the normalization of the developing, or developed, craniofacial structures and their function. OMT restores musclular harmony, and eliminates compensations.

  • What are the 4 main goals of OMT?

    • Nasal Breathing
    • Lip Seal
    • Correct Oral Rest Posture
    • Correct Swallow Pattern
  • What problems are associated with Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs)?

OMD's are associated with dysfunctional breathing, sucking, chewing, swallowing, and speech. Improper position and function of the lips, tongue, and cheeks  which will lead to facial pain, deficient cranciofacial development, postural issues, and TMJD.

  • What benefits do you normally see with OMT?

Each case is unique, but when the overall goals of nasal breathing, lip seal, proper tongue position, and correct we can see a variety of improvements.

Common improvements include more restful sleep, less snoring, less head and neck tension/pain, less congestion, easier chewing, less dark circles under the eyes, improvements in posture, and many more depending on each person's individual symptoms.

  • Is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy only for kids?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is also appropriate for adults. In many instances, a myofunctional dysfunction develops in response to late jaw growth, worsening of a malocclusion over time, or other reasons such as tooth loss. Therapy for adult patients is typically efficient. Adults of all ages can achieve success in treatment.

  • What age range do you work with?

    • We usually start seeing patients around age 7 and see patients to 100 for a traditional myofunctional therapy program, but we also include helpful options for those under the age of 7. You can never be too young or old to address orofacial myofunctional disorders.
    • For the younger population of age 3-6 we offer a customized MINI MYO program which helps address concerns such as: habit cessation, mouth breathing, tongue tie, etc. This program includes a excercises and activiities that focus on awareness, education, and helping the parents establish better orofacial habits for their young children.
    • For ages 6-24 months we offer an EARLY START session that is designed to start parents and babies with good habits. This program includes a Myo Munchee Bebe which can be helpful for oral tone, combatting mouth breathing and can be used as an oral motor exerciser and teething tool.
  • Do you take insurance?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy falls under medical insurance and is not reimbursed by most plans. Because of this poor coverage MOTIV Myofunctional Therapy does not file insurance or give Super Bills. Instead we have reduced the fees, to make this  important therapy more manageable for families. This could change in the future as this important field has growing evidence of its importance.

  • What type of payments do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, and HSA cards. Payments can be paid through our patient portal.

  • How do I get started?

Book a consultation to discuss your individual history and case.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists' day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, we require 48 hours’ notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 48 hours’ notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a $30 fee.
